God’s Gifts and Blessings by Lisa Mick

My husband, Dennis, and I have been traveling for the past two weeks and we’ve shared in some adventures along the way. I am very thankful that I have God to guide my days and my husband to share them with me.

All these blessings will come upon you and accompany you if you obey the LORD your God. Deuteronomy 28:2

As we were on the road we passed a sign to Dothan, Alabama. I looked at Dennis and said “Honey, I think this is where my grandfather was born and I believe my family cemetery is there.” So when we arrived at the hotel that evening, he looked on his computer and found www.findagrave.com. Someone had posted a picture of the headstones that were in that cemetery. Wow!  We were amazed! We found my great-great grandfather and my great-great-great grandparents. I knew I would have to see this one day.

On our way home from our trip Dennis asked me if I wanted to take a side-trip to see the cemetery where my family members rested. “Can we please?” It was way out in the country in Alabama and with the help of technology and the latitude and longitude, my precious husband located our family plots!

What a blessing I received to stand in the Granberry Cemetery which was started with my Great-Great-Great grandfather in 1858. God placed my ancestors amongst big trees and on a hill surrounded by cotton!! It was snow white all around and felt like we were in the clouds. It was beautiful.

While there I felt so peaceful.

After we left, I thought to myself, “I didn’t get some of that cotton to remind me of our visit.”

So I looked over at Dennis and told him that I wanted to cry because I forgot some of that cotton as a remembrance. Dennis looked over at me with a big smile he pulled some cotton out of his shirt pocket! “I got it for you, Honey, and was going to surprise you with it!”

My sweet Father had not only led us to that cemetery but He used His gift to me, my husband, to give me a blessing that He knew I would want but would forget in all the excitement. To see Dennis’ face and to know how much he wanted to give me that gift also was about more than I could take that day!

God is always looking to bless us and give us His precious gifts!

Sometimes those blessings are so close we just need to look for them because they are right under our nose!!

If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! Matthew 7:11
