Hidden Manna

I have come a long way in the area of prayer!  I can remember years ago being very uncomfortable with praying in public.  Now I pray constantly throughout the day and get together with prayer partners to pray for our families.  It also seems I am the one generally asked to pray over a meal because people know I believe in the power of prayer!

Recently, a revelation came to me about the Lord’s Prayer.  When it says in Matthew 6:11, “Give us this day our daily bread,” I thought about the Israelites in the wilderness, when God gave them their daily bread, manna, to eat.  It occurred to me that God desires for us to pray daily and rely on Him daily, just like the Israelites relied on God for their daily sustenance.  God could have unloaded a month’s supply of manna on the Israelites, but instead, if the manna wasn’t gathered in the morning, it would go bad by nightfall.  It was a daily reliance on God.

So these days, I try to remember to pray every morning for manna from God and that He will give me what I need to get through the day.  In Revelation 2:17, in the letter to the church in Pergamum, Jesus says, to those who overcome, he will give “some of the hidden manna.”  It was a common expectation among Jews that manna would be provided again when the Messiah returned, as he did for the Israelites in the desert.  However, I believe the hidden manna is available to each of us today.  We just have to ask the Lord for it!
