How to Give Grace

Disconnected

Disconnected.

Has a situation ever taken you off the grid?

Out of touch?

Removed from the mainstream?

During our moving stretch, I was only able to do the necessary, and lost contact with many friends, and activities.

Before I went through this, I didn’t understand how a move could isolate you.

In fact, before my house change, I was not so understanding when a close friend went through a similar move and did not have time for me. Not even for dinner? She has to eat. I thought the relationship had moved on.

But then I experienced the trials and tribulations of this major transition, and I understood.

Why do we have to experience things ourselves before we understand what others are going through?

Why can’t we just give people grace?

When someone is short-tempered with us, why can’t we say, “They must be going through something.”

When a friend doesn’t call, why don’t we understand that they are busy?

When our spouse doesn’t say exactly what we want to hear, why can’t we release our expectations?

God's grace

We need to administer grace to others.

Fortunately, we have a great role model in Jesus.

There is no situation we’ve been through that he does not understand.

He’s experienced:

Moves

Deaths of loved ones

Rejection

Harsh words

Betrayal

Unjust punishment

Pain

And he still freely gives grace to those who do not deserve it.

Not wanting anyone to perish.

And on the cross, he even issued grace to his underserving accusers, when he said “Father forgive them for they know not what they do.”

Who has hurt your feelings recently?

Maybe it was an unkind word.

A short temper.

Non-communication.

Try to look at it from their perspective.

Find out if they are in the middle of a trial.

Maybe they’ve got more than they can handle.

Maybe we need to understand,

And give them grace.
