How to Overcome Your Greatest Weakness

We all have a weakness that trumps all others.

It could be a family shortcoming, a bad habit, or a fear.

I believe God allows this weakness because when the enemy of our soul attacks our Achilles heel, he wants to see if we will turn to Him for the strength we need. In his book, From Dream to Destiny, Robert Morris says the Lord allows tests in areas like pride, purity  and power to see if we can handle the dream He’s given us.

When we receive accolades, are we prideful? When there’s attention from the opposite sex, are our thoughts pure? When we receive a position of authority, do we flaunt our power?

Will we pass the test?

I believe the tests or attacks come in the midst of great dreams or projects for the Lord. Satan knows our vulnerability so that’s what he targets. He wants to throw us off track.  The bigger the potential to glorify God, the more the enemy of our soul will try to destroy us.

In my own life, with my book manuscript, The Only Father I Ever Knew completed, I felt like I am being hit with heavy ammo on the front lines. I believe this book could help millions of fatherless people who have never recovered from the father wound. Because of the attack, I know I’m right.

If you’re also feeling a little beat up today and fighting your sinful nature, know you are not alone. In the midst of his evangelical mission to the Gentiles, Paul said, “I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me.”

But here’s what I know. No matter what you are going through, no matter how fierce the battle, God provides the strength we need. Paul knew that when he said, “I can do all things through him who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13). Psalm 18:32 says, “It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my ways secure.”

When you are feeling overcome, it’s important to be transparent before the Lord and lay your struggle before him. Tell him, “I am weak, but you are strong. Fight this battle in my soul. I cannot do this without you.”

Thank you, Lord, because you are our protector. There is no trial or temptation that we cannot overcome with you shielding us. We praise you and give you the battle. In Jesus Name we pray, AMEN.
