It’s a Love-Hate Relationship

God periodically calls me to a place I both love and hate.

It requires an extra dose of faith.

An increased level of trust.

A release of my fears to the Lord.

Where is this place? Maybe you’ve been asked to go there as well. It’s called “walking on the water.”

You remember the biblical story don’t you? After Jesus performed the miracle of feeding the five thousand, he sent the disciples off in their boat and he went up to the mountain to have some quiet time. When he was done, he didn’t take a water taxi to reunite with his friends. He’s the Son of God. He simply made a path on top of the water to get there. When the disciples saw this, it understandably freaked them out, but Peter said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” So Jesus did. Peter was jazzed about the concept of walking on the water himself, but when the waves got a little rough, he took his eyes off Jesus and began to sink. Jesus to the rescue!

Where is God calling you to take a faith walk on top of the waves?

I’m at the “getting out of the boat stage” and it’s a little scary. I believe God is calling me to take our Pearls of Promise Level-Up Conference to my home town of San Antonio.

It started with an introduction to a San Antonio-based evangelist, Ruben Torres. He asked to do an event together.

Then my friend and leadership coach, Aurora Ortega Geis wanted to be involved as well, which led to a connection with another San Antonio-based speaker who she had recently met, Bella Cruz.

Bella, a John Maxwell-trained speaker, who normally speaks in the healthcare industry, has written a couple of evangelical Christian books and desires to do more inspirational presentations.

The common denominator between all of us is that we’ve been healed of familial wounds, so as we prayerfully consider what we will be “leveling up” at this conference I know with certainty that we will be “leveling down the wounds in our lives” at Level Up-San Antonio.

As we met via a Zoom call yesterday, I felt an excitement about this event, set for May 4th, and my excitement was laced with peace about moving forward, just like Peter may have felt when he first stepped out of the boat.

But we still need a venue. There is always a financial obligation. And then there’s that small problem of getting people to attend.

The waves are worse than I thought. I feel myself sinking. Lord rescue me!

As Jesus pulled Peter out of the water, he said, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the winds ceased.

That’s when the disciples realized who they were dealing with. This was no ordinary man. He was the Son of God and because of that, they worshipped Him.

Walking on the water is not for the faint at heart.

It requires staying focused on the Savior.

It takes a daily dose of dependence on Him.

It demands an increased level of faith.

I know that after we go through our exercise of water walking, we will have a fabulous event in San Antonio and will look back and think, Why did we ever doubt? Then we will worship Jesus for what only He could pull together.

  1. Wonderful, Lisa. I never applied walking on water to my life challenges before, but it’s a very good point! This article has blessed me. Thank you.
Believing with you what a wonderful conference in San Antonio. There’s no reason it shouldn’t happen.

    1. I know God is in this, Margo, because of the way it is coming together. In fact, an old friend of mine now owns the Christian Newspaper that circulates in San Antonio, and he said he’d help us promote the event. I am in awe of how God leads and provides.
