Seven Things We Should Seek (Part 1)

1.     Seek God

What a way to wake up on my birthday!

I didn’t open my eyes after a loving dream about friends gathering around me with well wishes and a three-layer chocolate cake.

I was not surrounded by bouquets of flowers.

Instead, I woke up to one of my periodic frustration dreams about being chased by a pursuer who wants to harm me. Have you ever had one of those dreams? I ran feverishly from our house to our old neighbors’ house and hid in their closet upstairs. I felt trapped, then when on all hope seemed lost, my alarm went off and saved me from further panic.

However, I know why I probably had this dream. I am frustrated about a couple of situations in my life and don’t know how to solve them. I have sought counsel from a couple of friends who I trust, but in the end, I must seek God’s divine wisdom concerning the answers to my dilemmas.

I believe God allows unsolvable scenarios because He wants us to seek Him for answers rather than going to the internet, our friends or self-help books. While it’s great to look for counsel from others, ultimately, they should confirm what the Holy Spirit has already told you.

Do you need divine guidance about anything? Jeremiah 29:13 says “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

God wants to be found but He wants it to be our choice to seek Him.

In Acts 17, the Apostle Paul said this is the reason the Lord scattered people across the entire globe. “God did this so that they would seek Him and perhaps reach out for him and find Him, though He is not far from any one of us” (Acts 17:27).

When was the last time you sought God? I mean really searched for Him, and as you read His Word or prayed you said, “I need you O Lord, now more than ever. Please answer me.”

When we seek God, He promises to “heal our land” (2 Chronicles 7:14), “to reward us” (Hebrews 11:6), “we will lack no good thing” (Psalm 34:10), and most importantly, “we will find Him” (Deuteronomy 4:29-31).

Are you going through a trial right now?

What’s preventing you from seeking God?

Turn around. Run to Him. He is close by, waiting for you to seek Him.

The Lord looks down on heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God (Psalm 14:2).
