The $100 Provision

“And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).

This week I attended a “Legacy” Conference at church. I received multiple messages about the conference and felt a drawing to it, so I obediently signed up. As expected, the presenters gave me much food for thought.

In the final session of the two-day event, our pastor told a story about how he carries $100 bills around and periodically gives them away to someone in need. Still recovering from some ministry expenses, I selfishly thought, I’d like someone to give me $100. I immediately repented of the thought because I wanted the money to buy more of my books to sell or give away, not to put food on the table or clothes on my back.

After the conference, a women I knew came up to me and I could see she was burdened. We sat down and prayed together and then she said, “I wanted to bless someone today and the man I thought I was supposed to bless left, so I am going to bless you.” I thought she was going to pray over me, when she grabbed my hands and placed a $100 bill in my palm. I couldn’t believe it and immediately remembered my earlier thought!

In a beautiful way, God reminded me that he knows our thoughts and he is our provider.

What provision do you need today?

Financial?

Strength?

Peace?

Joy?

He is our Jehovah Jireh. This name of God (the Lord will provide) was first used by Abraham when he made the trek up to Mount Moriah with the intent of sacrificing his son, Isaac. When Isaac asked, “Where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” Abraham replied, “My son, God (Jehovah Jireh) will provide for Himself the lamb for a burnt offering” (Genesis 22:7–8). Abraham trusted God to come up with a better sacrifice, which He did, preserving the life of the child of the promise, Isaac.

When times are lean, we need to pray for God’s provision and trust as well. Our Jehovah Jireh knows our needs. He often provides in ways that we never imagined or dreamed. Be expectant.

“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? (Matthew 6:25-34).
