Trust the Lord, Even When it Doesn’t Make Sense

The Lord knows I have a lot of Moses in me. When he calls me to certain tasks, I don’t jump right into it. I need some coaxing and a minimum of three similar messages.

Five years ago, God gave me numerous visions for leading women’s ministry at our church. I thought I was supposed to take it over immediately, so you can imagine my disappointment when another woman was asked to lead it after I received so much detail about changes that needed to be made.  I questioned the visions and wondered if I heard the Lord wrong; however, one year after receiving His direction, I was asked to be the new women’s ministry leader. I didn’t trust God’s message. It was accurate; however, it wasn’t in my timing.

Recently, I experienced a situation where I was given numerous messages again. It was a scenario I never dreamed would happen, but the Lord once again prepared me in advance. It was also a direction I would have never proceeded in naturally.  In fact, I probably would have run from it, but there were too many messages in the months leading up to it to be coincidental, so I proceeded with prayer and continued to receive the Lord’s confirmation.  One day at our church altar, on bended knee, I gave it all over, and the minute I got up, the Lord immediately confirmed what he had been telling me.

So when the door slammed on this vision, I was once again confused  and asked the Lord, “Did I hear you wrong?” The girl who usually needs three confirmations, had received a dozen. I wanted to be in the center of God’s will and kept asking for signs because this calling made me apprehensive.

There is one thing I know, however.  I have to trust God, even when it doesn’t make sense.

Isaiah 55:8,9 says: “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

I don’t know what God has in mind. I just know what I heard. After analyzing the situation to the point of losing sleep, I know I need to release it to him and continue on this journey until he says the timing is right.

Has God ever given you a vision for a life change that happened years later?

  1. This is so true. Many things are now happening that only came through suffering and learning. And it makes you appreciate those blessings so much more. As for callings from the LORD, you are right, I have found that He tells me things way in advance to prepare my mind set. Then things eventually through faith begin to fall into place. It may not be on my timing and there may be some bumps and starts and stops.
