Two Hours

If you had two more hours of free time per day, how would you fill it?

That’s the question I’m asking myself this week as my youngest son is now driving himself to school for the first time. Because my son’s school is about twenty minutes away, the combination of drive and wait time amounts to about 120 minutes. That’s ten extra hours in one week, 520 hours in a year, amounting to sixty-five additional days over the course of twelve months!

Should I fill my empty windows with exercise? I’ve already been invited to a tap dancing class as well as a morning conditioning class. I’m not too sure about the tap dancing. When I was four years old, tap dancing also included tumbling and I always hid in the bathroom when it was time to stand on my head. Not a good memory!

Should I clean those closets that desperately need organizing? Two hours provide much needed writing time. I am co-authoring a Bible study that is demanding some attention.

Maybe I should earmark those two hours for prayer?

I guess I could spend two hours just planning what to do with two hours!

But in Proverbs 19:21 doesn’t it say: Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails?

Hmmm…Instead of focusing on my agenda, maybe I should ask the Lord what he wants me to do with my extra time?

God is faithful to provide tasks and detailed directions when we hand our watches over to him.

In his free-time, Noah built an ark; Solomon oversaw a temple building project; as a missionary Paul traveled when and where the spirit led him, often avoiding places, when warned by the Holy Spirit. Their time belonged to God and they allowed God to dictate how they should spend it.

So today, I am asking the Lord how to utilize my two hours and I will ask Him again tomorrow and the day after. His direction may be the same every day, or it may be surprising, but I know my extra time will be more fruitful if I give it to Him.

If you had an extra two hours per day, what would you do?
