A Lie by Any Other Name is Still a Lie by Karen Hauser

Businessman Looking Suspiciously Over His Shoulder

Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds.  Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him. (Colossians 3:9-10) NLT

This week I had the experience of being called out on a little “white lie”. Somehow phrasing that way sounds better doesn’t it? When the truth is, a lie is a lie. Let me say the sister in Christ that talked to me about it, did it in complete love. She understood why I did what I did, but explained that didn’t make it right. As my sister and I talked, it became clear to me that I knew what I did was wrong. However, I justified it and explained that the truth would have hurt. My sister said; “No, the truth sets you free.”

During that conversation, again given and received in love, God gave me a HUGE  revelation. In trying to protect someone I love, I was getting in the way of the work God was doing in this person’s life. The truth may have hurt. But, as much as I love the person I didn’t want to hurt, God loves her more and He has some things to accomplish through her. She will need to draw closer to Him and hear him. That’s hard to do if I’m yapping’ and fixin’ things that are outside of his plans! In other words, there are times that we are led to help others in Christ and then there are time we need to just hush and let Him do His good work.

I’m thankful my sister came to me. I’m thankful that God allowed my mistake to be corrected and apologies were accepted.  I’m also very thankful for the reminder that God has all things in control.  Scripture says He is the truth (which sets us free and allows God to do what needs to be done) the light ( which allows us to be free of burden to shine for Him) and the way (the only way that we should live). In Him. Through Him. For Him.

I wondered when it would happen. When the well would run dry. Today I didn’t have a devotion idea. I thought, “Should I write about my trip to Walmart yesterday?”             Boring.             “How about a devotion about putting all the Christmas decorations away?             Did that last year.             Surely there’s some angle…

  • Dirty Laundry

My dryer broke last week. Those of you who have a lot of dirty laundry know what that means. There’s only so much you can wash without a dryer because everything has to be air dried. For a while my house looked like a clothing museum with blouses and shorts hanging on every available hook!…

  • The Snare

“Gideon made the gold into an ephod, which he placed in Ophrah, his town. All Israel prostituted themselves by worshiping it there, and it became a snare to Gideon and his family.”  The story of Gideon is one of transforming insecurity to security. It is about overcoming weaknesses. It is about believing what God says…
