A Rainbow and a Love Song by Karen Hauser

RainbowMy Mom and Dad will celebrate 60 years of marriage this November.  They have had some health hits in the last few years but have kept their sense of humor and love through it all.
I witnessed that gift of humor recently. Dad made my Mom really mad about something and she was fuming.   Dad was going to the store and asked if she needed anything.  She replied (in her I don’t like you right now voice) “Yes! A sling shot!!”  My Dad slowly turned around and said, is it for you to sling things my way?  She responded only with “the look”.  My Dad did get her a sling shot accompanied by a bag of cotton balls!  She took a look at that and said; “Smart man!”  They both had a good chuckle and went on about their day.
My Mom has not been able to get out much because of her health.  This week, there was a good day and Dad took her to her favorite restaurant.  When they pulled into the parking lot, one of their true love songs was on the radio and they were looking at a beautiful rainbow out the window.  They sat there and held hands until the song was done.  They know the days ahead are few.  They know to appreciate this day.  It’s the only one they have for sure.
It’s the only one we all have for sure.  Their marriage has been a process of growth.  Aren’t they all?  Isn’t our life a process of growth?  I am thankful that God allows me to grow.  I am thankful that when I upset those around me, that forgiveness is given.  I’m thankful that I can give that same forgiveness.  Forgiveness is straight from God folks!!  He’s the one that gave the greatest example of it through the sacrifice of His son.
My parents experienced a moment that God gives us all if we are willing to recognize it.
Isaiah 40:31 says, Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.  They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.
On those days you feel like getting a sling shot, talk to God first. His word is true and His promises are for you. Even if this day is truly dark, God is ready to give you a rainbow and a love song because you are precious to him!!  More than any of us can truly understand.
Genesis 9: 13-15: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind.
Thanks be to God!!!

I am studying Genesis right now and just read about the birth of Rachel’s second son, whom she named Ben-Oni.  Rachel was the beloved wife of one of the Old Testament patriarchs, Jacob.  As Genesis 35:17 records, Rachel began to give birth and had “great difficulty” so she named her son, Ben-Oni, which means…
