He Will Do It!
“Lisa, I had this vision as I was swimming laps in the pool,” my college friend Mary Ann said. We should go back to Texas Lutheran and put on a retreat for the women we went to school with, something like “The way we were; the way we could be.” I immediately caught onto the vision and said, no, it should be “the way we were, the way we CAN be.”
That was four years ago. Mary Ann was involved in ministry in northern California and I was in north Texas doing similar work. Our distance alone made it difficult to pull this off and neither one of us had ever put on a retreat before, but God gave my friend this dream and when he gives you a dream, he will make it happen. It’s just a matter of believing. 1 Thessalonians 5:24 says, The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it.
I don’t know about Mary Ann but my faith wavered at times as we planned the retreat. I am extremely analytical and over think scenarios at times (OK…. a lot of times). “What if no one comes?” “What if the program is not exciting enough?” I had to keep reminding myself to take myself out of the equation. “He will do it. He will do it. HE WILL DO IT!!!” That is so exciting to know when God gives you a vision, he will take care of all the details. We just need to act on his instructions.
Seventeen women attended our college retreat the first year and now we are making final preparations for our fourth annual retreat with twenty-nine women signed up, a 70 percent increase over the first year! This year’s theme: “God’s GPS: Maneuvering Your Way Through Life’s Detours.” In the retreat’s case, the Lord gave us an open highway with no detours. We just had to be obedient. He was in the driver’s seat and we were along for the ride.
God is so good and I am thankful he leads us the way he does. Has he given you a vision? Do you believe he will do it through you? Sisters, there is no other way to live life. Let God lead you and follow him wherever he goes. It’s exciting!
