Is God Really For You?

If God is for us, who can be against us? Romans 8:31

Do you believe God is cheering for you?  I confess I have not always bought into that.  For many years I was afraid of God and saw him as a harsh disciplinarian who watched my very move.  One wrong step and there would be consequences.

In one of my Old Testament seminary classes, I remember the professor said the mindset of the Israelites was “If you do good, you get good.  If you do bad, you get bad.”  That made sense to me.

But over the years, my eyes have opened up to the Lord’s goodness.  When trials come, I realize God will work good out of the bad.  I have found God is the closest to me during the down times because he wants to lovingly guide me through them.

I am finishing up a book written by Mark Batterson called The Circle Maker.”  Batterson gave me a new truth about the 23rd Psalm.  In verse 6 when David says:  Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, Batterson says the word “follow” isn’t a strong enough translation.  He says it’s a hunting term in Hebrew.  “It’s like God is hunting you down–but not to harm you; God is hunting you down to bless you.  He wants to show you His goodness and His mercy, but too often we run away from it.  Why?  Because we doubt His good intentions.  We can’t believe that God is for us.”

I know I am not worth of God’s goodness and mercy but as I see doors fly open for our Pearls of Promise ministry I know that my Abba Father is hunting us down to bless us.  I am thankful and love him more than a girl could ever love her father.  It’s taken a long time to get to this place but I finally believe God is for me.

Do you need to change your mindset?  Do you believe God wants the best for you and is for you? If not, today is the day God wants you to grasp this truth for yourself.
