You Have Reached Your Destination
No service.
I knew I’d be out of cell phone range once I arrived at the HEB Foundation Camp, but I didn’t know it would happen the minute my car pulled into Leakey, Texas.
There is something about disconnecting from the world that is healing.
You can’t text a friend.
You can’t post on Facebook.
You can’t check out the news.
You are forced to reflect and give your total attention to God without interruption.
In a way, it’s a three-day detox to clean the world out of your system.
I recommend it for everyone.
While I was the speaker at this particular women’s retreat, it was a much-needed respite for me. It caused me to break away from:
The demands of preparing a house for sale.
Working on an upcoming women’s conference.
Producing programs for our radio ministry.
What do you need to break away from?
After hearing two of my GPS themed messages Saturday morning, the ladies at the retreat had free time. There were several options provided but all filled up except the option to repel down one of the cliffs near Laity Lodge. The thought of that was repelling to me so I decided I would rest instead.
As I wondered where and how to rest, I kept hearing an old gospel tune in my head. “Come to the water. Stand by my side. I know you are thirsty. You won’t be denied.”
So I physically went to the water at the encampment and admired a lone fish. Then I watched some of the brave women who repelled, which confirmed my original decision to forgo that activity.
What water did the Lord want me to go to?
I walked back to my room and decided to sit on the balcony that overlooked the Frio River. I admired the beauty of God’s creation. I’ve always been a big fan of his work. But it was there I realized God didn’t want me to physically go to the water. He wanted me to drink from his living water that was active, and had a never-ending flow.
So I opened the Word and with the majesty of the hills as a backdrop, I turned to this passage in Psalm 139:8-10:
If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.”
God was telling me as he also tells you today, “I am here with you daughter, but I am also with you in Flower Mound or San Antonio or wherever I provide opportunities for you to minister to my people.” I am there in the rigors of a move. I am there when you feel you can’t take another step because you are too tired physically. I will never leave you nor forsake you, but I also want you to come to me and spend one-on-one time so I can give you rest.
I know you are thirsty.
You won’t be denied.
Wherever the Lord takes you he is with you.
He will never abandon you.
God’s GPS brought me to give a word to the ladies at the retreat, but he also provided the blessing of a beautiful place perched up like a nest where I was able to spend time with my Father and get much needed rest.
Without the cellphone, without the list, without the downsize, you get my gist.
Just God and me in a room with a view and for the first time in months, I had absolutely nothing to do.
And the GPS said, “You have reached your destination.”
