A Gift from God by Dr. Lisa Burkhardt Worley

I received a present from God this week.

I was hesitant about entering our most recent documentary, Their Blood Cries Out, into a certain film festival because of the cost. However, it is a well-respected in-person event, and I really wanted to submit our documentary. I was contemplating how to work it into the budget when I received an email from the festival organizer congratulating me on the success of Their Blood Cries Out and would give me free admission if I entered it into his festival. It was a gift from the festival organizer, but I also felt like it was a gift from God. There was no way that the event leader could have known that I was trying to find a way to enter. I believe my Heavenly Father prompted him to reach out.

God promises to give us the desires of our hearts, which He did in this case. This is also another example of God’s love, favor, and faithfulness. He rewards those who diligently seek Him. Psalm 36:5 says, Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. In other words, we cannot measure God’s love or faithfulness. It’s beyond our capacity to understand.

Just as a loving earthly father might do, our Heavenly Father provides for our needs. He knows when we need a little extra support, so he sends someone along to help. He sees when we are depleted of joy or energy, so He infuses us with supernatural joy and stamina. He provides direction when we feel lost because He doesn’t want us to wander too long.

Even during the worst of our life scenarios, we have to view Him as a good and loving God in whom we place our trust. Psalm 9:10 encourages us to trust when it says, Those who know Your name will put their trust in you. For you, LORD, have not forsaken those who seek you. (NKJV).

The ultimate gift from God is the salvation of our souls that He provides through belief in Jesus Christ. I cannot stop thanking Him for this gift, one that I did not deserve and one that will never perish. What about you? Do you love to receive gifts? I do as well, but especially the gifts from my Heavenly Father above. Through His gifts, our omnipresent LORD lets us know that He sees us.
