Are you Wrong or Right?

Eternity

“Eternity it too long to be wrong.”

While the conference I attended Saturday was about Biblical prophecy, it is those words from the speaker that keep ringing in my ears.

There are hundreds of reasons why people choose not to believe Jesus is the Savior of the world, and the Son of God, but do they ever consider they might be wrong? And if they are wrong, do they understand it is an eternal mistake?

Eternity is a long time to look back, and wish you had done things differently.

In this case, you wouldn’t be looking back from your easy chair.

Here are some frightening Biblical descriptions of Hell:

”This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth” (Matthew 13:49-50).

“He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might” (2 Thessalonians 1:8-9).

After reading that, eternity is really too long to be wrong.

I am one of those analytical types who wants to be sure I’m making the right decision. When it comes to direction from God, he always has to send multiple messages. I don’t like U-Turns.

But there’s no U-Turn once our life clock runs out. We are looking at a One-Way sign, either north into the arms of our loving Father in Heaven, or south into the arm pit of a fiery inferno.

We’re given freedom to choose one or the other, but is the choice wrong or right?

If you are on the fence about all this God stuff, why not check it out to be sure? In Jeremiah 29:13, God promises you will find him, when “you seek me with all your heart.” It’s a worthwhile treasure hunt that pays eternal dividends.

Years ago, I was sharing my faith with a young woman who believed in God, but was skeptical about Jesus and the resurrection.

I asked her why she didn’t believe, and she didn’t have an answer.

I challenged her to join a Bible study, even though she didn’t believe, so she could educate herself about what it was she didn’t believe in. She took my advice, and today, after studying, asking questions, and seeking the Lord with all her heart, she is a follower of Jesus Christ. She has also seen major transformation in her life, and is becoming a leader in the faith.

She realized “eternity is too long to be wrong.”

Broken heart

I don’t know who is reading this blog today, but be assured I deeply care about you, and your eternal security. I have prayed for God to break my heart for what breaks his, and I believe he weeps when he has to send anyone to Hell. That’s why he waits so long for you to come around. 2 Peter 3:9 says, “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”

Maybe I’m speaking to you today. If so, I challenge you to read a book like The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel, or enroll in a Bible study with an open mind. Perhaps you know the truth, or think you believe, but haven’t been willing to make a commitment. James boldly tells us in James 2:17 that faith, not accompanied by action is dead. If you have not had a transformation, and don’t have any desire to make a difference in this world for Christ, then you have to question your salvation.

Are you confident about your eternal future, and certain you are right? If not, and you are ready to take a leap of faith, won’t you pray this prayer?

Father, I believe you sent your son, Jesus, to die for my sins, and today, I give my life totally to you. I am a repentant sinner, seeking you with all my heart.  I pray you will reveal yourself to me in the coming days, and help me to live a life that glorifies you, and no other. In the name of Jesus I pray, AMEN.

Eternity’s too long to be wrong. It’s time to make sure you are right with God.
