Be Prepared for Anything

Ambulance 3 “Mam,” the young woman behind Corner Bakery said as she looked at me with eyes of desperation.  “I am feeling very dizzy.”   Then she passed out.

I was in between errands and stopped at the neighborhood restaurant for a to-go tea and something sweet.  I never dreamed my day would take a turn like this.  I immediately called 911 and asked for an ambulance. The Lord, knowing I had no medical skills, was gracious to bring along a man who was an off-duty paramedic. He evaluated the young woman and determined she was unconscious and having a seizure.  I remained on the phone with the EMS dispatcher until the on-duty paramedics arrived and began to care for the 20-year-old. I was invested in this young woman now and remained on the scene praying for her until I thought she was stabilized.

When I finally entered Corner Bakery, I was shaking and wasn’t sure I needed anything sweet anymore, but a kind restaurant employee handed me a complimentary cookie and said, “I know what you just went through and I thought you might need this.”

When we start out our day, we never know what might occur.  That’s why it is so important to begin each day by strengthening ourselves with the Word of God and prayer.  When we are weak he is strong.  Psalm 46:1-3 says, God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam  and the mountains quake with their surging.

When we begin our day with the Lord, he gives us the strength to handle anything that comes at us that day. A friend of mine, who lives in Granbury, probably never dreamed  seven tornadoes would rip through her area this week, but when they did, she and her husband, both Christians, made it through the scenario with the strength that only God provides.

If you don’t already start your day with God, will you consider spending time in his Word and prayer today?  We never know what life will toss us during the course of a day but when you start your day fueling yourself with His power, He will equip you to be prepared for anything that may come your way.

Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.
