Colossians 3:14 “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” (NIV)

Ephesians 5:1 “Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”

Ezekiel 2:5  “And whether they listen or fail to listen for they are a rebellious house, they will know that a prophet has been among them.”

A young adult man in his twenties shared with me how he no longer went to church or even really believed in God.  He had been raised in the church with Christian parents and regularly attended all the church activities such as youth group and Sunday School.  As we continued our conversation I asked him to share his thoughts as to why he had chosen to no longer embrace his Christian heritage.  His response was staggering.  He responded by saying, “I did not see that it made a difference in others’ lives, so I see no need to waste my time with it.”  He went on to say that his life was just as good without church and God as a part of it.

I asked myself how this could have happened to a young man who was immersed from birth in a Christian environment.  I think the answer is convictingly obvious.  He grew up “hearing” about Jesus, but did not “see” Jesus.

As Christ followers we have a responsibility to walk the walk not just talk the talk.  How do we do that?  The Old Testament prophet Micah gives us the answer:  “He has showed you, O man what is good.  And what does the Lord require of you?  To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”

Dear Jesus, please help me to remember someone is always watching. I ask you to create in me a pure heart and renew a steadfast spirit within me so that others can see Jesus in me.
