God the Builder by Lisa Burkhardt Worley

HouseUnless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Psalm 127:1

Our God is a God of detail. When he asked Noah to build the ark, he gave precise instructions: The ark is to be 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high.  Make a roof for it and finish the ark to within 18 inches from the top. (Genesis 6:15-16) There’s more but you get the idea.

When Solomon began to build a temple for God it involved the same kind of intricacy: The temple that King Solomon built for the LORD was sixty cubits long, twenty wide and thirty high. The portico at the front of the main hall of the temple extended the width of the temple, that is twenty cubits, and projected ten cubits from the front of the temple. He made narrow windows high up in the temple walls. (1King 6:2-4)

God is still a God of detail.  He will still give you specific instructions for your life if you ask Him.

This weekend the Pearls of Promise team combined with Christ Healing Center in San Antonio  to put on a women’s conference. The theme was “God’s GPS: Navigating Your Way Through Life’s Detours.”  God appropriately “mapped” out every detail. He directed us on the schedule, the speakers, he gave the music team the songs and he showed the Healing Center what they needed to do to provide interesting transitions between messages.

It reminded me of a symphony. God used many different instruments, with different roles, but together, they created beautiful harmonious music. God built the house.  He was glorified and by listening to him about every detail, the “house” was constructed.

Our “house” was small but on Sunday, our team worshipped with friends at a much larger “house.” When we came in, the stage was filled with the adult and children’s choirs and worship leaders.  In the sanctuary there was a sea of faithful servants holding their hands up in praise. I thought, “God built this house.”  Ironically, the pastor spoke about how the church originally came to be. The Lord had given him a Scripture and a dream. I’m sure He gave him the construction blueprints as well.

Your “house” doesn’t have to be an event or a church.  It can be any aspect of your life, your marriage, your work, a decision you need to make.  If you are uncertain about how to proceed, give it over to God.  He constructed the world, so his credentials are pretty impressive. Through prayer, ask Him to show you the details. Hand over the hammer and let him build it.
