It’s All New! By Karen Hauser

New clip artTherefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! (2 Corinthians 5:17)
After several years in the corporate world, I found myself with the unexpected opportunity to begin my own business in public speaking and coaching. In other words, I was laid off.
I was peaceful and excited about this opportunity because it clearly came from the Lord.  I had wanted to start my own business in public speaking for years.  And, now I can.  I was thrilled.  Until I realized I had no idea what to do.  Being resourceful, I contacted a mentor whom I had met a couple of months prior and told her my situation.  She was great and enthusiastically told me what to do to get started.  She mentioned a mission statement, business plan and so forth.
She had me at “this is going to be great” and lost me at “mission statement.” Then others around me quickly began giving me their idea of my vision and mission.  I heard “write your book,” “build your website,” and “market yourself,” “tag line, tweet, blog” and my eyes glossed over. That’s when I realized, this is all new.  Everything had changed and I didn’t like it.
I think the only one that likes change is a baby when its diaper is dirty.
I needed to put things into perspective. I needed to learn how to do what I wanted to do.  So, I googled, watched YouTube how-to’s and was still overwhelmed.  I did the last thing I knew to do which should have been the first thing I did that day! I prayed and asked God for help.  Was I on the right track?
Best selling author and speaker Barbara Johnson said: “You are the only person on earth who can use your ability.”
Our abilities; are they new?  Some may be.  We learn as we grow.  We have abilities that we have not used yet because the opportunity has not been presented.  So, when it does, we will use a new ability! We encounter new every day.  It’s a new day.   We don’t run from tomorrow.  We shouldn’t be sad about yesterday.  Be thankful for today.  Even though a few hours ago, it was new! It’s all in our perspective.
If you are like me, you are still discovering who you are and what God has planned for you. I think we should embrace new situations.  They give us the power or process of transforming something common into something precious.
The opposite of new is old.  I choose new!!  I embrace new!
In Christ, all things are made new!”  That’s a beautiful thing!

As I worked through my Bible study this week, I was reminded of how important it is to periodically remember what the Lord has done for us throughout our lives. I refer to them as “mind markers.” In the Old Testament, when one of the patriarchs had a close encounter with Yahweh, they’d build an…

  • “Unfinished”

This week in our “Un-Crowd” Bible study we began our discussion with an icebreaker.  We had a list of “un” words and were asked to pick the one that best described us. I chose “unfinished” because that’s how I’ve felt lately. Unfinished laundry, unfinished organizing, unfinished writing, unfinished book marketing and last night unfinished cooking. …
