Jump Off the Train

“But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase” (Daniel 12:4).

Do you feel like you’re hanging on for dear life as the pace of the world taps out your life speedometer?

What appeared to be conveniences and tools to connect with others have stolen our downtime.

The internet.

Cell phones.

Voice Mails.

Social Media.

bullet train

That’s why I occasionally see people jump off the social media bullet train. Their minds are screaming “slow down!”

I’ve got good and bad news for you this morning.

This way of life was prophesied by Daniel long ago when he said “many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.”

The good news is this quickened pace is a sign of the end times as we approach Christ’s return. The bad news is as technology increases, it will not get better.

So we have to be intentional to carve away time to slow our pace and meditate on God’s word. We must take a day of relaxation to avoid a buildup of anxiety.

Because I believe we are in those final years before Christ’s return, God is also raising up more prophets, evangelists and teachers than ever before, myself included. It’s not just Billy Graham anymore. He’s allowing scores of us, many of whom are women, to have platforms to reach the masses to hear the good news, another sign we are accelerating toward the culmination of the world as we know it.

In Matthew 9:37-38, Jesus says, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

Even though there are more workers out there fishing for souls, there are still more fish than our nets can handle.  And the pace can be exhausting if we don’t take a day to recharge.

We have to jump off the train.

Travel, speaking, books, and soon, an international radio show, all gifts from God to reap a harvest, but in order to accomplish all this, I must disconnect one day a week and rest. Today I am preaching to myself as I am preparing for another ministry trip to San Antonio. While it is exciting, it can also be overwhelming, and I am tired.

We are no good to God if we are fried.

Perhaps I am speaking to you. Do you long for a day without a “to do” list? Do you look out at your backyard and miss the days when you could relax on the patio, and simply enjoy the birds chirping? I am challenging you to disconnect and do that today. After I complete this blog, I am planning to put aside work and play golf with my husband and son.

I am jumping off the train.

There will be another one coming around the bend soon.
