Looking for Love in All the Wrong Places by Lisa Mick

Have you ever looked for love in so many ways that you actually stopped and thought “Is this love?”

In earlier years of my life this is exactly what I did.  The song lyrics that Johnny Lee sang are this:   “I spent a lifetime looking for you.  Singles bars and good time lovers were never true, playing a fools game hoping to win.  And telling those sweet lies and losing again.  I was looking for love in all the wrong places, looking for love in too many faces.  Searching their eyes looking for traces of what I’m dreaming for.”

Well, my friends, has anyone been at this place with me?  Have you ever been lonely, scared or wanting love so much that you searched in all the wrong places? I sure did sisters.  Was it scary? Yes.  Was it lonely?  Yes.  Did I want to be loved so desperately that I would do almost anything?  Yes.  Was I looking for love in too many faces? Yes.  Was I dreaming for that perfect love?  Yes.

Did I go about it the wrong way?  You bet I did my friends.  Looking for love in all the wrong places cost me so much.  It cost me my value.  It cost me my self esteem.  It cost me my morals.  It cost me my relationship with my Heavenly Father for a time and that was the most treasured love I had ever found, only I didn’t realize it at the time.

You see, I had a lot of different things happen to me that were negative and those things caused me pain and anguish and cost me my value.  A few years ago I realized the value that I had in God, my Father, even though I looked for love in all the wrong places.  Are you still tracking with me?  Did you catch that?  I realized I still had value because of my Heavenly Father.

Sisters, that is when I feel to my knees and realized that there was grace and mercy for such a sinner as I was.  I called myself a dirty, filthy rag and that wasn’t who God made me to be.  I was His daughter, a daughter of the KING.  As His daughter, when I was truly sorry and asked for forgiveness, then by His grace and mercy He forgave me.    How sweet our Father is. If only I had looked for love in the right place.  That place is in the arms of my Savior, Jesus.

But, looking for love in all the wrong places has given me a story to share.  A story of a girl who was looking for perfect love and perfect love can only come from God, not man.

So if you are lonely, feeling rejected and by yourself today, I am here to tell you, you are not.  God is always with you and loves you deeply.  He will take care of you.  So if you are looking for love in all the wrong places, I am praying now as I write this.

  1. Well said Lisa! You are right. It can be exhausting looking for love or some form of “approval” from people we know or meet. It is so much more fulfilling to turn to God and be filled with His love and share it. Thanks for sharing your experiences. You are shining His light for all to see.
