Spiritual Eyes

Pearl GirlsWhen the servant of the man of God got up and went out early the next morning, an army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city.  “Oh no, my Lord! What shall we do?” the servant asked.  “Don’t be afraid, the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”  And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, LORD, so that he may see.”  And then the LORD opened the servant’s eyes and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. (2 Kings 6:15-17)

It is day three of our Pearls of Promise Ministry trip, a day off to do fun things like go to the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville and spend some time touring Vanderbilt University. It’s a day of rest from the “scheduled” events on the calendar, but we’ve learned it is not a day off from ministry.

Like Elisha, we pray the Lord will open our eyes.  For us, we want God to open our eyes to the needs around us.  Who needs a hug today?  Who needs to tell their story?  Who needs a listening ear?  Who does God want us to reach out to? God wants us to have his “spiritual” eyes to see what initially might be invisible.

On Saturday, we ministered to a person, who after one meeting is now attending Bible study for the first time in years. Saturday night, we spent time talking about our faith with a friend, starved for conversation about deep spiritual things. Yesterday, we showed love to the woman who was going to clean our room, praying over her and giving her a Pearls of Promise devotional.

We believe God blesses us in so many ways because we have our “spiritual eyes” on.  Yesterday, we happened to be at the same hotel as the Little Rock Touchdown Club meeting and the local radio sports talk host mentioned Pearls of Promise on the air and said, “Spread the word.”  We didn’t have to buy advertising.  God took care of it!

There’s a whole world hurting around us that needs a kind word or a loving touch. Do you pray to see it? Do you ask God to open your “spiritual eyes” before you walk out the door in the morning?  The Pearl girls don’t want to miss an opportunity to reach out. Just because it’s a day off, we want to be used by God 24-7. Help us to see what you see Lord. What is surrounding us?

  1. This part reminds me of a dream I had: And then the LORD opened the servant’s eyes and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. (2 Kings 6:15-17)“Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”
Thank you for the reminder not to fear for our God is with us so why should we be afraid. Also, to see with the spirit. I have traveled with you Girls and know that you live in with expectation and see signs and wonders! Which is a Pearl.
