The Enemy Within by Mayada Naami

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is —his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Roman 12:2, NIV)

Sometimes we are our worst enemy. The mind is a battleground, and the enemy wants to get inside our head with thoughts and fears that can cause us to act or react in ways that can destroy friendships, relationships, and marriages. John 10:10 tells us his mission is to kill, steal and destroy. In 1 Peter 5:8, the Bible says, “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” Satan, the ruler of this fallen world, does not want humans to love one another. He wants to separate us from God because God is love and we were created for Him and to love one another. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love (1 John 4:8).

“We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”

(2 Corinthians 10:5, NIV)

In the beginning God created Adam and Eve for relationship. He created Adam for fellowship with Him and all creation. “Koinonia,” the Greek word used for fellowship, expresses a relationship of great intimacy and depth. The enemy cast doubt and fear in Eve’s mind to come between her and God. He tries to do the same thing with us today, and it is our responsibility to take captive every thought and present our thoughts to Christ so that we can “demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God.” (2 Corinthians 10:5) We were created, like Adam and Eve, to be in fellowship with God our Father and with each other. The victory over the battle in your mind comes from staying close to God and the Word of God; Jesus, who lives in you (1 John 2:14).

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”
