We Can’t Hide by Lisa Burkhardt Worley

Have you ever wanted to shut off all your responsibilities and hide from the world? Many of us may get to this point when the demands of life seem to be too much. However, no matter what we are going through, we cannot hide from God. Hebrews 4:13 says, “Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight.”

This means that when we are going through something difficult, we should be transparent before God, even when we are not admitting our weaknesses to others.

There are many hiders spoken about in the Bible, but God always found them wherever they tucked away. In Genesis 16, Hagar fled from her home to the desert because her boss, Sarah, treated her poorly. God sought her out and gave her a promise: “I will increase your descendants so much that they will be too numerous to count.”

After fleeing from Egypt, Moses thought he would live out his years in Midian, but God found him as well and presented another big plan for Moses’ life. The LORD called him to save the Israelites from slavery.

And after Elijah destroyed the false prophets of Baal in 1 Kings 18 and 19, he was a marked man as King Ahab and Queen Jezebel sought to kill him. Elijah fled to the wilderness where an angel ministered to him, strengthening him with baked bread and water. The LORD followed by allowing Elijah to be in His presence as He passed by.

Are you hiding? Are you in a desert or wilderness right now? Remember what God said to Joshua. “Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9, NKJV). Jesus said something similar:  “…I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20).

No matter what you are going through at this time, remember the truth that you cannot hide from God, and most importantly, he wants to help you find a way out of hiding just as he helped so many others over history.
