What Does God Love When We Pray?

A whirlwind.

That’s the best way to describe the past few weeks.

My husband’s kidney stone that rocked our world.

A speaking engagement five hours south.

An engagement party for my spiritual daughter.

In an effort to sell our home, an Open House to prepare for.

Perhaps your world has been just as topsy-turvy lately and you don’t know if you can take one more step.

I have found these are the times when we need to sit in our daddy’s lap. We should humbly ask him to help us make it through the chaos.

It’s OK to cry.

It’s OK to admit we’re tired.

It’s OK to collapse at God’s feet.

Singer Kari Jobe has a song, Beautiful, that says she is not afraid of her brokenness when in God’s presence.

Are you afraid to let it all out, even when it’s just you and the Lord?

Who are you when you pray?

Do you remove all the masks?

Do you lay out your vulnerabilities before God?

That’s what our Abba Father loves.

Hezekiah 7

When Israel’s King Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death, Scripture says he prayed and wept bitterly. He was the KING. He had the highest worldly position in the land but he still climbed up into his Abba’s lap. Then in Isaiah 38:5, God says “I have heard your prayer and seen your tears…” The Hebrew word for “heard” here is “sama.” It also means “to summon.” What a beautiful image! When we humbly pray before God, our tearful prayers are a 911 call to God, who then hurries to our side.

God wants us to bear all before him.

He doesn’t want us to vent to a friend first.

We shouldn’t complain to a relative or a spouse before we take it to his throne.

When we pray, we need to strip away the formality and any pride that remains. God loves it when we admit we are helpless without him…because we are.

“Going through the motions doesn’t please you, a flawless performance is nothing to you. I learned God-worship when my pride was shattered. Heart-shattered lives ready for love don’t for a moment escape God’s notice” (Psalm 51:16-17 The Message).
