What is Reality?
“Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity.” (Colossians 4:5)
After a week of relaxing with my family in the Virgin Islands, it’s back to reality. Reality takes many forms.
It comes in a pile of papers needing to be addressed.
Ten loads of laundry to sort.
People to contact.
But this week I also received a dose of reality about life and death, as an old high school chum and Facebook friend posted a list of those who had passed away since we graduated. Are 23 people from our class of 420 really gone? We lost another this week so make that 24.
Then yesterday, I heard about an old boyfriend, also a Christian, who left this Earth to be with the Lord. He was only 61. Before meeting my husband, I had three serious boyfriends. Two out of the three are now in Heaven.
So today, I am asking myself “Am I really making the most of every opportunity to share Jesus Christ with those who don’t have a relationship with him?” “Do I really care about people’s eternal future?”
Maybe those are questions you can ask yourself as well.
Time is shorter than we know.
In a world of pluralism, we either believe the Bible or not, when Jesus says, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).
If Jesus is the only door to eternity, we are responsible for providing people within our sphere of influence with the road map to this passage.
So from here until God calls me home, I am going to pray every morning for opportunities to speak to people about the hope I have. A bit shy around those I don’t know, I will ask for a boldness that can only originate from God. I will request that the Holy Spirit provides words to resonate in someone’s soul.
I will make myself available.
Will you join me in this prayer to make the most of every opportunity? Are you ready to face reality?
