What is the Truth by Lisa Burkhardt Worley

What is the truth?

It’s the age-old question and it’s the question I’ve been asking after violent protestors stormed the United States capital building a few days ago.

Was it a hired group paid to disrupt?

Was it a peaceful protest that got out of hand?

Was it really incited by the President?

I don’t know the answer to any of these questions but this morning I was reminded that God knows, and in His good timing, He will take care of it.

Psalm 5:4–6 says, “O God, you take no pleasure in wickedness; you cannot tolerate the sins of the wicked. Therefore, the proud may not stand in your presence, for you hate all who do evil. You will destroy those who tell lies. The LORD detests murderers and deceivers.”

If we are confused about the truth, we have to move back to what we know represents truth and righteousness, our Holy and Righteous God. When we are feeling unsteady in the circumstances surrounding us, the presence of God is the only place we can find stability. He cannot tolerate darkness. Psalm 5 goes on to say, “But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them sing joyful praises forever. Spread your protection over them, that all who love your name may be filled with joy. For you bless the godly, O LORD; you surround them with your shield of love.” With the state of the world like a heavy weight trying to pin us down, we can still lighten our load and feel joy and love when we turn back to God.

So today, instead of pointing fingers, let’s pray for God’s truth to prevail and that He will rise up and take action against any injustice.

“Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord” (Romans 12:19).

  1. Let’s Return to The Land of the Free and Home of the Brave

My guess is that Antifa, or some other enemy, joined the peaceful(?) march just as they did the peaceful(?) protests.
The following are my thoughts when I saw the videos the other day.

Remember the story of the Trojan Horse?
(Deceitfully enter the city of course.)
The enemy soon took over by force.
The surprised citizens were filled with remorse.

This is happening in our nation today.
Everyone wants to have their own selfish way.
We’ve lost sight of God who made us free,
And refuse to accept our diversity.

No person can know, or do, everything.
That’s why we can vote, not be ruled by a king.
We want wise leaders with integrity,
Not a proud dictator that’s “all about ME.”

The enemy has entered the ranks on each side.
Each accuses the other of unlawful pride,
And does the same thing they accuse the other of.
We need restoration which begins with love.

Let’s learn from history how to stay strong.
Each person that’s born wants to belong.
Let’s look to the God who created each one.
The Bible will teach us how it should be done.
