Who’s Real and Who’s Not?
Pardon me, but I am relatively new to Twitter. To understand how it works, I thought I’d follow some of the Christian writers and speakers I admire like Beth Moore, Andy Stanley and Lee Strobel, to see what tweets they came up with. Through the process, I realized you could not only tweet, but you could also re-tweet something interesting that one of the people you follow said. When I read Lee Strobel’s interesting re-tweet from actor and martial artist, Chuck Norris, I thought, “Maybe I’ll follow him as well.”
However, when I searched for Chuck Norris on Twitter, I was amazed at how many different people claimed to be Chuck Norris. There’s “Chuck Norris Did,” “Chuck Parody,” and “Chuck Norris U.” “Are any of them really Chuck Norris?” I wondered. Would he really tweet about himself: “When Chuck Norris does push-ups, he doesn’t push himself up, he pushes earth down?”
So many times in our Christian walk, people may wonder about us, “Is that really her?” “Is that really him?” When our behavior during the week doesn’t match our piety on Sundays, it’s difficult to know who the real person is. Is she the one who gossiped on Tuesday or is she the one who belted out “Amazing Grace” on Sunday? Who’s real and who’s not?
1 Corinthians 15:58 says, Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
Are you standing firm in your faith walk? Is there consistency day-to-day? As I begin to tweet words of encouragement, my hope is that the one-liners I put out there to the world do not contradict who I really am whatever day of the week it is.
