Am I Too Small for God? By Lane Jordan Burday
When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained, what is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him? Psalm 8:3 – 4 NKJV
When I see the magnificence of the heavens and all the stars, galaxies, planets, and moons, I become even more in awe of all God has created. What beauty! What perfection that all our planets line up and never get off course? How bright are those trillions of stars?
God’s greatness can make me feel very small. Because I am one person on a planet of 8.1 billion people. I’m just a speck of sand on the seashore. How can God know who I am? I’m not very significant, I think. But that is very incorrect thinking!
God loved ME so much that He sent His Son, Jesus, to show me the way to Him and to die for my sins so I could live forever with Him! With God! That’s almost too good to be true. So, God had mankind write down in a book, the Bible, all about Himself and how to reach Him and to live for Him. He even promised to prepare a new home for us when we leave this earth.
That makes each one of us very significant in the eyes of God!
If we live according to the ways of the world, we could easily seek our significance in the accumulation of stuff and money or trying to obtain fame. But God only wants our hearts. He wants us to love Him first and to follow Him. When we do, all these things will come to us. Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
What I know about God is that He is the Creator of everything. That means every particle of dust, every single atom, every animal, and every person. Everything He created was done to the infinitesimal detail. And He loves you and me because we are made in His image, to be a light on this earth.
We can illuminate others with God’s truth. Daniel prophesied about God’s people in end times: “Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the firmament, and those who turn many to righteousness like the stars forever and ever” (Daniel 12:3 NKJV).
Rest assured; you are very important to God. The one who “counts the number of the stars” and “calls them all by name” (Psalm 147:4 NKJV) loves you very much and knows you intimately. You are His forever, so shine forth!
