Do You Believe God Still Heals?

Praise the LORD my soul, and forget not all his benefits—who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases….” (Psalm 103:3)

Do you believe God still heals?

I’m a believer, and have seen a leg saved from certain amputation, a foot healed, swelling subside, cancer turned back, blood pressure calmed, and a voice restored.

But I had never asked for physical healing for myself until Sunday night.

Broken heart

I was at a healing service, and as I stood there, worshipping God, I asked, “Lord would you heal my heart tonight?”

I’d suffered from heart palpitations for a number of years, and was on a low grade Beta Blocker because of them. However, this irregular heartbeat worsened over the past few months, probably because of moving stress, but I was concerned.

So the preacher prayed for healing of the congregation, and was specific. He covered addictions first, cancer, and then he said:

“Does anyone have heart issues? Arrhythmia, irregular heart beats, I command you to be healed in the name of Jesus Christ.”

And I felt a click inside my heart.

It was a physical sensation, as if God made a slight adjustment. And the palpitations subsided.

I believe I was healed.

Does God still heal?

Yes.

Why would he stop?

Jesus said to the disciples in John 14:12, “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.”

Jesus healing

Healing is not something that only happened in ancient times. Jesus set a standard that we are called to emulate, and the majority of his ministry was healing. There are 31 individual healings recorded in the Gospels, but there were probably countless more than that.

Through the power of Christ, healing still happens today.

Last night we laid hands on our small group leader, whose eye was injured in a freak accident. She believes she is healed. The small group members believe she is healed, and I feel confident there will be a good report the next time we get together.

Believing is a requirement for healing.

And no, God does not always heal. Sometimes, he allows a sickness to linger. He works through trials. Often, an illness will result in death. Everyone’s days are numbered. But I wonder, how many illnesses could have been thwarted if the sick person had pressed into Jesus’ healing?
Healing is available for those who believe, and who ask for it.

James said, “Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well” (James 5:14-15).

Do you need healing today?

There is no guarantee that God will provide it, but you won’t know until you ask, then believe it can be done.
