Finding Freedom in Christ

When we began to actively build the Pearls of Promise ministry a few months ago, we came up with the mission statement, “Finding God in the everyday.” After reflecting on that for a while, we realized that is not what Pearls of Promise is about.  This ministry is about helping women to find freedom in Christ, so we have appropriately changed the mission statement.

After leading women’s ministry at our church for four years, I found that most women struggle with issues that prevent them from living a victorious life. Much of what holds them captive happened in their childhood, and their past prevents them from living the abundant life Christ promises us in Scripture. Our goal is to help the women of this world to overcome their past or current strongholds, whether it’s through our blog, our books, podcasts or speaking engagements.

Both Pearls of Promise Director of Outreach, Lisa Mick and myself have stories of overcoming.  She will share her story one day on this blog, but thanks to God’s mercy for me, I overcame a very dysfunctional childhood without a father and a mentally ill mother due to the sudden death of my father two months before I was born.  Psalm 68:5 says, God is “a father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.”

God is the only father I ever knew, and he used a high school friend to reach out to me and share his word with me.  My friend’s family then proceeded to take me to church every Sunday through the rest of high school. The Lord was with me from that point on, but even when I look back over my childhood, I can recall many instances where I knew the God protected me because I had no one else.

It was through God’s strength that I have fought the battles that have presented themselves throughout my life. We discuss some of those battles as well as other women’s struggles in our new book, If I Only Had…Following God’s Path to Your Security, which is currently seeking a publisher. While we discuss the struggles and insecurities, the book is about how women overcame their problems, finding freedom in Christ.

We claim Galatians 5:1 that encourages us: “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”  It is our desire to set the captives free! We love women and want them to be freed of the chains that prevent them from having joy in their daily lives.
