He is Good by Lisa Burkhardt Worley, D.Min.
Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him (Psalm 34:8).

When both our external and internal worlds seem to fall apart, we have to remember one truth. God is good, no matter what is going on around us.
I’ve been troubled by the war in the Middle East. While no one wants a tyrannical and oppressive regime in a position of power, the constant news of bombings, drones, and targets hit makes one wonder, Are we at the end?
The terrorism in our own country is also unsettling. A foiled synagogue attack in Michigan, and another school shooting in Virginia. What has happened to the honor of another human being? Why do people intentionally try to harm others?

Our own troubles can compound our feelings of hopelessness, despair, and grief. There are stretches where almost every aspect of our lives can turn south. But before we continue down this path of sorrows, we know that we can look up for help. Why? Because the LORD is good and He is the hope-giver. Psalm 54:4 says, “Behold, God is my helper; the LORD is the upholder of my life.” Then Isaiah 41:10 promises, “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
The LORD will never let us get too low because He is within a prayer’s reach and He is good. Often, the attacks on our personal worlds are launched by the enemy of our souls. When we feel hard-pressed, ask What is going on in my life right now? If he is trying to paralyze us because of we have the potential to make an impact, we need to rebuke Satan. We should then get on our knees and pray to our good Heavenly Father, asking Him to fight the battle for us.
God doesn’t want us to remain in the pit. He’ll lift us out because of His goodness. Praise God that we are never alone in this life and that He always encourages us when we ask.
