How to Be Wise by Dr. Lisa Burkhardt Worley

What do you do when you don’t know what to do?
Often, we are thrust into a scenario where we don’t have the answer or the frame of reference to make an educated decision. We might spend sleepless nights thinking about a scenario. We probaby know it is essential to do the right thing.

Seeking God’s wisdom is the answer to this dilemma. 1 Corinthians 2:10 says, “For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him?”
As an Executive Pastor for the first time in my life, I am having to strategize and make decisions about many things, and I do not want to rely on human wisdom. The LORD sees what is ahead and has wisdom beyond my finite capacity. His way is always better.

The good news is that God’s wisdom is available to all believers (James 1:5). We are blessed when we find wisdom (Proverbs 3:13). James says wisdom is “pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere” (James 3:17).
Wisdom seems like a very good friend to have, so why wouldn’t we want to tap into God’s wisdom when we are perplexed, confused, and frustrated? Carrying the wisdom of the LORD within us has benefits. Proverbs 4:7-8 encourages us to pursue wisdom aggressively, and when we do, there is a reward. “The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding. Cherish her, and she will exalt you; embrace her, and she will honor you.”
There is no wisdom more fail-proof than the wisdom from above. All we have to do is ask for it.
