God is in Control by Lane Jordan Burday

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:8-9).

With the sudden infiltration of Hamas into Israel this past week, one would think that it took God unaware. Where was He during this invasion?

He was right there.

Yes, we might feel on edge, worried, or anxious about these shocking and horrendous actions. Uncertainty quickly leads to fear, and fear erodes away at our faith. Fear can be so powerful. In fact, fear is one of Satan’s most used tactics to get us to doubt God.

But we have the power to overcome anxiety and fear with God’s promises. Despite what we feel, we need to remind ourselves that God is in control. When everything around us feels out of control, we can allow the truth of Scripture to prove to us that God has been, is, and will be sovereign over our lives and the world.

He is our peace and comfort for It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; He will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed (Deuteronomy 31:8).

I know without a doubt that God was holding each person as they were killed. How do I know that? Because God is true to His Word! They are with Him now. Remember—we don’t know the back story of why God allowed this to happen. But it will all “work together for good.”

As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds His people both now and forevermore (Psalm 125:2).

No. It doesn’t make sense to see these precious people killed and slaughtered. But I will trust God. I will lean into Him and not my own understanding.

And I will keep my thoughts on the eternal rather than on the temporal.

Jesus is coming to redeem Israel and His church soon. Be ready.
