I am grateful for…by Dr. Lynnette Simm

The United States

‘Tis the season of gratitude and thanksgiving. As I sat and thought about all that I’m grateful for, I became overwhelmed. Look, I’m not going to get into politics, religion or sports, but we live in a pretty amazing country. As a woman, I am able to drive, own property, run a business, and vote. I am also thankful for the sacrifice our veterans and current military have made so we can maintain our freedom in the United States.

As a U.S. citizen, I have opportunities to move freely throughout the country, buy what I need, work where I want, and have a family. As a Christian, I am free to gather in fellowship, share my faith, and worship without fear.

Anyone can focus on the problems our country has. In fact, that’s exactly what the enemy wants us to do. Compare. Divide. Insult. Bully. But the Lord wants us to be loving to one another. To honor one another. To respect one another. Sometimes this is harder to do, but be thankful you have a choice.

You also have the choice of being happy or not. In the United States we have the freedom to choose. We have the opportunity to change. We have the hope of life everlasting. So this week take time to see everything you have—physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Blessings don’t come with a change in circumstances, but a change in perspective. Choose gratitude and thanksgiving. Most of all, choose love.
