Power of Our Words by Lane Jordan Burday
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
(Proverbs 18:21)
This is one of my very favorite verses of all time. Why? Because I would forget how powerful my words can be, and this verse reminds me. I remember the first time I read this verse; I realized how much I should pay attention to what I say.
Do I speak negative words? I will end up with those in my life. Do I speak life-giving words? Then my life will be enriched!
Words are so powerful. In fact, God created the heavens and the earth with His words! “Let there be light” was spoken, and there was light!
When Jesus walked the earth, His words brought people back to life, as with Lazarus, or healed them. With just His words.
And let’s not forget how complaining words can affect our lives! Philippians 2:14 reminds us not to complain: “Do everything without grumbling and arguing.”
Today we can use our words to create or destroy, to speak words of life to a person or a situation, or death, to build up or tear down, or to speak words that have positive or negative repercussions. We need to remind our children to say positive words over their lives as well as over ourselves.
But the best way to use our words? Share the glorious gospel with everyone you encounter! God showed us the power of our words. Now we need to go out into our families, neighborhoods, towns, and beyond, sharing His salvation through Jesus.
God’s Word will not return void (Isaiah 55:11). When we speak life in a person or a situation, we will see great results!
I pray you will ask God to help you see everything as positive to you. Romans 8:28 backs this up! Everything in our life will come together for good. Let’s believe that!
