How Great is Our God? By Lisa Burkhardt Worley, D.Min.

When I think about my relationship with God, I remember the old Willie Nelson song, “You Were Always on My Mind.” Maybe I didn’t love you quite as often as I could have…

Sometimes I am guilty of not telling God how much I love Him often enough. I don’t give Him the honor He deserves. What about you? I can get distracted in the mornings during my worship, prayer, and Bible reading; I can forget to thank the LORD for another day, or praise Him for who He is in my life, a Heavenly Father whose attributes and care are beyond my comprehension.

Isaiah 45:5-7 gives us a glimpse of the greatness and benevolence of God:

I am the LORD, and there is no other, apart from me there is no God. I will strengthen you, though you have not acknowledged me, so that from the rising of the sun to the place of its setting people may know there is none besides me. I am the LORD, and there is no other. I form the light and create darkness, I bring prosperity and create disaster; I, the LORD do all these things.

There is no other god like our God, and it’s mind-boggling that He still takes care of us even though we don’t give Him the attention He deserves.

Lately, I’ve been praying, “Help me to love you more, LORD.” I want to get back to that time when, at 16 years of age, I wrote a song titled First Love written for my future husband, about how God will always be the first love of my life. If I am being honest, some days He is my first love and other days, I put the tasks of the day before Him.

Our goal should be for our life to revolve around God. He should always be on our mind. If you have a desire to draw closer to your Heavenly Father than ever before, will you pray the following prayer with me?

Heavenly Father, I love you more than words can express. Thank you for giving me breath, providing for my basic needs, and for the exciting life adventure that you’ve allowed. I pray that I will stay more focused on you daily, be more aware of your presence in my life, and that I will never take you for granted. Help me to honor you, worship you, love you, and give you all of the glory for any accomplishment I may experience. You are Almighty God, and there is no other. In Jesus’s name I pray, AMEN.
