Should We Defend Ourselves? By Lisa Burkhardt Worley, D.Min.

When we encounter false accusations, should we speak up for ourselves?
It is my tendency to do that, but if the accuser is convinced that they are right, there is very little one can say or do to change the scenario.
From experience, I believe there are several ways to handle false claims.
- We can tell anyone who will listen why we are right.
- We can sulk and fall into a situational depression because of the injustice.
- Or we can stop the ruminating and get on our knees and pray to our Divine Defender.
Option #3 is always the best plan because favor originates with God (1 Chronicles 29:11-14), and He can work supernaturally behind the scenes to correct any inaccurate impressions. Psalm 121:1-8 assures us that the LORD is our help in these scenarios:
I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand…

All our Heavenly Father requires is a heart that is obedient to Him, and He will take care of our opponents.
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies (Rom 8:31-33).

Let’s be thankful for the One who fights our battles and can work on our behalf in the spiritual realm. He is El Roi, “the God who sees.” He knows the truth and sees our hearts. We no longer have to strive when God is our defender.
