The Blessing of Unity

“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron’s beard, down on the collar of his robe. It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the LORD bestows his blessing, even life forevermore” (Psalm 133:1-3).

As I reflect back on the Christian Women in Media National Conference, I sit in awe and humility when I think about all the women I was honored to meet this weekend.

Women who have devoted their lives to advancing the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Women who have a heart for the oppressed.

Women who have risked their lives to reach their sisters and brothers for Jesus.

Women who teach the Word internationally.

Women who have endured great hardships, but still sing songs of praise before the Lord.

Women who love deeply, are not jealous, and who desire to help each other.

This weekend, I saw unity among women like never before.

King David, who understood division and strife, said unity “is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron’s beard, down on the collar of his robe.”

David is comparing unity to the anointing of Aaron, Moses brother, and a high priest of Israel. According to the MacArthur Bible Commentary, he’s saying this togetherness is a “rich spiritual blessing.”

David then compares unity to the “dew of Hermon falling on Mount Zion.” Mt. Hermon is a 9200-foot Peak at the northern end of Palestine, and provides the major water supply for the Jordan River by its melting snow. Through this word picture, David is telling us unity refreshes us, and it quenches our thirst.

The blessings of unity wash over us.

Sisters, life is too short to not be unified.

Are you feeling dry because of division in your life?

Are you jealous of another, or is someone envious of you?

It’s time to put the strife aside, and ask God to show you how to achieve unity in your relationships.

Our hearts should to be help, not to divide. We should put our own agendas on the back burner in order to exalt one another.

We need to be like the early church and share what we have, not keeping it to ourselves.

We should love each other as God loves us.

Today, I bask in the dew of Hermon.

God’s precious oil anoints me.

All because of the unity I experienced with Christian sisters from all over the world. Many, if not most, have made more of a difference in their ministries than I have at this point. But our love for the Lord, and for each other, is equal.

Kay Arthur and me

As I left the CWIMA conference, I received a sweet kiss on my cheek from one of the greatest Bible teachers of all time, Kay Arthur. It was a beautiful end to a weekend of many blessings the Lord provided, as we worshipped our Lord, Jesus Christ together in unity. (LBW)
