The First Step to Going Deeper in Our Faith

“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field” (Matthew 13:44).

When it comes to faith, how deep do you want to dive into the mysteries of God?

Maybe you’re afraid of what will be revealed to you. Perhaps it’s too scary to think of a God so close in proximity that you can feel his presence. You might think the distance between Heaven and Earth is close enough.

I was like that at one time and I am someone who is in the Word and prayer every day. I remember a prayer exercise in seminary designed to draw us students into the heavenly realm. I did reach the door of God and actually heard him greet me with “Daughter” then I bolted the opposite direction.

It was too close for comfort.

I was not ready to go that deep and I left a heartbroken God still longing for me to desire greater intimacy with him.

But now I crave that. I am not afraid anymore.

What about you? Do you want to go so deep in your faith that you and your Heavenly Father have long audible conversations? Do you want to feel the breath of God on your face? Will you search for the deep mysteries of the faith like you would for hidden treasure?

If so, Valentine’s month is a great time to show a longing love to God. Tell him you want to draw closer to him. He will guide you and will provide opportunities. James tells us if we come near to God, he will come near to us (James 4:8). Ask him for ways to find him and unearth his hidden treasure.

Praise Him

That’s what I’ve done and I am watching him provide. This weekend I participated in a “Go Deep” conference. What a powerful event! I was a speaker but God wanted me there to learn more about him and to lead me to some of his hidden treasure. It was there I discovered more about the supernatural world and I praised God like I never have before. Heartfelt praise is a great opening into the depths and mysteries of God.

If knowing the Lord better is a desire of your heart, let him know and he will be quick to provide the treasure map.

Are you ready to dive deeper?

Will you take another step closer to the hidden treasures of God? He’s waiting with love for you, daughter. He longs to embrace you, son.

He wants to be found.
