The Room with a View

“You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being” (Revelation 4:11).

A wall. That was the view through the window of a new home we looked at. No trees. No flowers. Just a few feet between the house and the next home over.

We’re about to be empty nesters so we are on a fast track to downsize, and it was our first weekend out to search for a smaller home. I quickly realized that a scenic view is a must have, because I am a fan of God’s creation.

As I sit at my kitchen table writing this morning, I am serenaded by the locusts, and the sweet songs of various birds perched in the trees. I see an occasional bunny scamper by,

and I watch a fat lizard, who I’ve nicknamed Sam, explore the patio. I admire the trees swaying in the breeze, and enjoy the flowers I planted, still alive and blossoming, for now.

It is in the arms of God’s creation that I feel the closest to him. What about you?

For me, creation has always been enough to prove the existence of the Almighty. It seems farfetched that the variance in creatures, and the intricacy of each design could have originated through a big bang years ago. Many scientists agree.

Dr. Michael Strauss, a physics professor from the University of Oklahoma, lectures across the country about how creation points to a divine designer. He highlights how Earth is unique, with its moon, sun and solar system perfectly aligned to allow life to survive. He says few, if any planets, have a large moon in orbit around it to help provide just the right atmosphere. Few, if any planets, have a neighbor such as Jupiter, which is so large its gravity sucks into it potential threats to Earth, like comets and asteroids.

Strauss says there are 322 such parameters needed for a planet capable of sustaining intelligent life to form, and the probability for occurrence of all 322 parameters to develop by chance is 10 to the minus -282.

Strauss concludes, “It is unlikely that Earth could ever be duplicated,”

While I may never be able to duplicate the lush scenery I have from my kitchen window, I trust that God has selected the perfect place for us to finish out our years, and because he knows my love for his design work, our new home will have a room with a view. One of the things I am most thankful for is the beauty of God’s creation. For me, it is proof enough that he lives.

“To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal? Says the Holy One. Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength not one of them is missing” (Isaiah 40:26).
