Three Doors to Open for the King (Part 2)

Closed door 2

As we prepare for the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ, Pearls of Promise is asking, “What doors should we open for the King?” Our first door to open was to our heart. Today we present the second door.

#2 Open the Door to Our Pain.

When Jesus walked the Earth, his primary business was healing. Over 30 individual healings are recorded in the Gospels and there are many more mass healings that Jesus performed. When the imprisoned John the Baptist asked if Jesus was the promised Messiah, he replied, “Go back and report to John what you hear and see: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised and the good news is proclaimed to the poor” (Matthew 11:4-5).

Jesus Hand

Jesus identified himself as a healer.

But we wonder if Jesus still heals today. Why should we open up the door to our pain, our addictions, and our broken hearts?

Today, I will present a revelation, given to me by the Holy Spirit.

I realized, we don’t always acknowledge the healings that occur in our lives.

We tend to focus on friends and loved ones with terminal illnesses, who don’t seem to receive healing, rather than all the times that we have experienced healing but didn’t recognize it.

EKG

Here’s an example from my life. A few years ago, I had my annual physical at the doctor’s office. After running an EKG, the doctor looked at me, somewhat alarmed, and told me he was certain I had an enlarged heart. He referred me to a Cardiologist. In between doctor visits, I prayed for healing. After undergoing an Echo-Stress test, the Cardiologist met with me and looked puzzled. He asked, “What did your doctor think you had?” I replied, “An enlarged heart.” Continuing to see bewilderment in the specialist’s face, I asked, “I don’t have an enlarged heart?” He said, “No your heart is perfectly normal. You just have benign PVC’s that we can control with a low grade Beta Blocker.”

At the time, I thought my regular doctor misdiagnosed the situation. Now, as I look back, I believe I experienced a supernatural healing. This has happened at least two other times, where one diagnosis was made, then the condition disappeared.

Think back over your own life. How many times have you been given one message about your health, only to find out later you were OK? Did you pray in between? Could you have been healed?

Jesus healing

We often miss the healing in our lives.

In Luke 17:11-19, Jesus healed ten lepers. They asked Jesus to have pity on them and he did. Ten saw their health restored, but only one, a Samaritan, came back to Jesus and thanked him. Jesus asked, “Where are the other nine? Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?”

We need to return to Jesus and thank him for all the healings we have experienced: physical, emotional and spiritual.

laying hands

On occasion, I feel called by God to lay hands on those who are sick. I have seen many people healed in current day, not because of my power but because I believe in the power of Jesus Christ working through me. But what I have found is that most of those who witness a dramatic turn around in their situation, don’t give God or the prayer credit.

They don’t return to thank him.

It perplexes me because the ones who experienced healing are Christians. But I think people have trouble pressing into the supernatural in today’s world, even though God’s word gives no indication healing stopped at the resurrection of Jesus.

Today will you believe that Jesus still heals and open the door to your pain? Open the door to:

Your broken heart: “He heals the broken hearted and binds up their wounds” (Psalm 147:3).

Your anguished soul: “The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles” (Psalm 34:17).

Your physical illness: “Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord” (James 5:14).

Jesus was born to heal and to save. Today, let’s open the door to the King and allow the Great Physician to begin his work in us.

On Saturday, we will open the final door in this series.
