Three Ways to Be a Mighty Warrior of God

knight

Life is a battle.

If you haven’t figured this out then you haven’t lived long enough.

Sickness.

Death.

Disappointment.

Rejection.

Tragedy.

Our greatest enemies happen in and around us.

So how do we fight the good fight?

How do we find victory in the darkest of days?

Here are three ways to consider.

1. Fight Your Battles Utilizing Prayer.

When the King of Assyria proudly threatened to overtake Judah and starve a remnant left in Jerusalem, King Hezekiah went up to the temple of the LORD and spread out before him. He asked God to deliver Judah from Assyria’s hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth would know that the LORD was the only God. And because of Hezekiah’s prayer, God prevented the siege and said this about the Assyrian King: “He will not enter this city or shoot an arrow here. He will not come before it with shield or build a siege ramp against it.”

In this case, a heartfelt prayer prevented a war. What wars in your life are you trying to put an end to? Lay it all before God.

2. Remember that God is your ally not your enemy.

At the end of Joshua’s life, he had some parting words of wisdom for his fellow Israelites. Joshua is the one who led the Israelites into the Promised Land, slaying giants and foes. God provided victory after victory over their enemies using Joshua as the leader because this patriarch believed that God would fight battles through his people. By this point, there was finally peace in the land and this is what Joshua said to the Israelites: “The LORD has driven out before you great and powerful nations; to this day no one has been able to withstand you. One of you routs a thousand, because the Lord your God fights for you, just as he promised. So be very careful to love the Lord your God” (Joshua 23:9-11).

Joshua’s final words weren’t “Be sure to carry your sword” or “Always watch your back.” No, he said be careful to love God. The word “love” in Hebrew also translates as “ally.”

Is God your ally in the battle you are facing, Mighty Warrior? How much time are you spending with him putting together your battle plan? How much do you love God? He loves us with an everlasting love, so much so that he is patient with us, not wanting anyone to perish. Be careful to love God in the midst of your battle.

The Lord fights our battles

3. Trust that the Lord your God can and will fight for you.

After you pray and love God, let him do the hand-to-hand combat. When you study the battles of the Old Testament, you find that when God’s people relied on him and were obedient to his ways, he delivered the enemies into their hands. Using only 300 men, Gideon, a mighty warrior of God, and his troops staged a surprise attack on the Midianites. They held torches in their left hand, blew their trumpets and smashed the empty jars they carried. They shouted, “A sword for the Lord and for Gideon!’ The Midianites were so rattled that they turned on each other with their swords. Gideon and his troops then captured and killed the leaders of the Midianites and the Israelites won the battle. There was peace in the land for the rest of Gideon’s life, 40 years.

And God can bring peace in your life as well if you allow him to fight the battle for you. Our striving and worry generally cause us to run in circles like the Midianites, so isn’t it time to hand the battle plans over to God? He is the only one who has the power to fight our greatest enemies and when we make him General, he is the one who transforms us into one of his Mighty Warriors.
