Why Do We Write? by Lane Jordan Burday

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving (Colossians 3:23-24).

If I’m being honest, there are times when I don’t feel like doing what’s on my schedule. It’s not laziness, exactly. It’s more the question of… Why? Why does this need to be done?

Recently, I was sharing with my husband how difficult it can be to write a weekly blog. It doesn’t necessarily increase book sales or lead to more speaking opportunities, yet it requires a significant amount of time, thought, and energy.

He looked at me and gently asked, “Are you writing to help yourself, or are you writing to minister to women?”

Mic drop.

In that moment, my heart sank. I immediately asked the Lord to forgive me for my misplaced perspective. How easily the world’s mindset of “marketing” can creep in and distort our purpose.

For over 35 years in ministry, my calling has been clear: to share the beautiful Gospel, the Good News of Jesus Christ, with as many women as possible. To encourage, uplift, and lead them into the fullness of who God is—His mercy, His forgiveness, and His unfailing love. To remind them that He is present in every moment of their lives.

There is nothing more important than pointing someone toward eternal life. When one person comes to know Christ, it not only transforms their life forever, but it creates a ripple effect that can reach family, friends, and generations to come.

Jesus said, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest field” (Matthew 9:37–38).

Each of us is called to share the Gospel daily, in whatever way God has placed before us. The time is short, and the need is great.

So, I will keep writing.

Not for recognition. Not for results. But as an offering to the Lord and as a way to encourage you in your walk with Him.

As His servant, I simply cannot stop.
