Who Do You Follow? By Lane Jordan Burday
It is the Lord your God you must follow, and him you must revere. Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast to him (Deuteronomy 13:4)
Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me.” Matthew 16:24

Is there an Influencer you follow? I have heard that it is the current fad. You find someone on TikTok who is buying, showing, or doing something that you think is ‘really cool’ and you ‘follow them.’
I must be a nerd because I don’t follow anyone on social media but my friend’s children and grandchildren on Facebook!, but from what I have heard, these influencers can make millions just by posting videos of themselves and what they do.
I don’t know about you, but I’d rather do something else with my time! Which is why I asked, “Who do you follow?”

Since I love the truth of God’s Word, I love to go there for wisdom for my life. And one of my favorite verses is where Jesus says to build your life on a solid foundation, which is Him. Matthew 7:24-25 is where Jesus teaches that those who put His words into practice are like “a wise man who built his house on a rock.”
If Jesus is the one I should follow, how is the best way to do that?
We must know Jesus well to follow Him well. Christianity is not a ‘religion’ because it’s a relationship with the living God! Once we receive Jesus into our lives, study His word, pray with Him, and walk with Him every day, we will begin to know Him fully.

We must be committed to following Jesus through the easy and the hard times of life. Jesus isn’t like the influencers on social media, here one day and gone the next. Jesus was with God at the beginning of creation! He is Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last. He will be with you forever!
We must be courageous in our walk with Jesus every day. We will suffer in this world as He did, and there are days when being rejected and outcast, because of our faith, is hard, very hard. But following Jesus is the only true path to life.
We must cover ourselves with the Armor of God for daily protection against evil:
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes” (Ephesians 6:10-11).
Remember, that the evil one wants to be our Number 1 influencer! So, we must fight back so that the only One who influences us is Jesus!

I want to share with you that I know it is hard living in a world that is totally opposite of everything that Jesus teaches. I get judged and criticized often because the Bible is the absolute truth, and people today want to do what they want to do when they want to do it, without being under any type of authority.
But when a person lives like that, their life is truly built on sinking sand. I pray you stay strong on the rock of Jesus.
