We are spending Labor Day Weekend with our oldest son, daughter-in-law, and grandson in my hometown of San Antonio.
The San Antonio days in the 80s and 90s were exciting during my sportscasting days at the local CBS affiliate, KENS-TV. I was even recognized this weekend by a salesperson, almost 30 years after I retired from secular television
It would be easy to say, “I miss the good ol’ days,” but Ecclesiastes 7:10 warns us against that mindset: “Do not say, ‘Why were the old days better than these?’ For it is not wise to ask such questions.”
Instead, I believe the Lord wants us to embrace the season that we are in today. Would I trade the ministry I am doing now for a secular sportscasting career? No. Working for God is far more fulfilling.
Philippians 4:11-13 says,
I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
Good or bad, where has the LORD placed you today? Are you discontented or content? Just like the Apostle Paul experienced, the LORD desires for us to be content, no matter the circumstances.
We have to trust that God is at work in our lives—wherever He has placed us—in order to mold us into His image. Nothing is wasted. The good ol’ days are in the past and while he will use the lessons we learned over the years, the LORD wants us to press forward into the destiny He has designed for us.
