God Cares About the Details! by Lane Jordan Burday

The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Psalm 37:23-24

This past weekend, my husband, Scott, and I traveled to Cleveland, Ohio, for a family wedding—in January! We got off the plane amidst snow falling, and though it was a beautiful sight for this Southern girl, it was very cold and icy.

After Scott got the rental car, he returned to the terminal to pick me up. As I walked out to the car, I saw a pickup truck. “What is this?” I asked with a laugh.

“It was all they had, but it does have four-wheel speed, so I guess that’s good,” he replied. Fortunately, it had a back seat, so our luggage didn’t have to sit out in the open back space. We put his brother’s address into GPS and off we went.

We remembered his brother’s house sits at the end of a very long driveway that descends. I mentioned that we better go slow so we don’t slip on the new snow/ice and run into the retaining wall at the end. Fortunately, we arrived in one piece and parked the car.

That is when we realized how blessed we were. His brother came out to help us with our luggage and said, “Good thing you got four-wheel drive, because that’s the only way you can get up the driveway tomorrow!”

“Are you serious? We didn’t know that, and this was the only car they had.” said Scott. That is when we realized God had that car picked out all along for us.

Then, as we were getting ready at the hotel for the wedding (his sweet aunt let us dress in her room since we had been at the nursing home all day with Scott’s mom), I asked Scott to zip me up. As soon as he started to move the zipper, BANG! It broke in his hand. We just looked at each other, and though I could have cried, I shrugged and was glad I had a nice coat. No use getting upset!

“I’ll just wear the coat and see if I can find safety pins!”

And that’s what I did. Another place would not have had a wedding planner, but we were at a wedding, and after the wedding, she fixed my dress with some mighty safety pins.

Matthew 6:30 says, “But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown in the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?”

I know some of you might think these are just things that happen. And they are. But we know God was in the details so we could be with his mom and family at the wedding because God gave us the right car.

I know without a doubt that the Lord cares for every single detail of our lives! Just look at the great patriots from the Bible!

God gave Abraham a ram to replace his son for the sacrifice.

God gave the Israelites manna every morning for food.

God gave Joseph the power to interpret dreams.

God gave Esther a place in the throne room to save the nation.

God gave Samuel the right son to be anointed with oil—David, who would be king.

God cared about Daniel, saving him from the lion’s mouth.

God gave the 5,000 food to eat.

God cared about each person He saved from death and sickness and sent the disciples and their message to all the world.

How about where you are today? Call out to the Lord and ask Him to take care of the details of your life. He cares so much and loves you forever.

And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 ESV

  1. Thanks, Lane, for recognizing and reminding us of God’s hand at work and for giving Him glory! As I say, those were His “Co-Incisions of Grace”! 🙂
