God is Calling You by Lane Jordan Burday

God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord.

I Corinthians 1:9

It is so easy to recognize the voice of an artist on the radio instantly or an actor’s voice in a movie or TV show, and yet we are unsure whether it is God’s voice we hear or not in our lives. Perhaps you wish that God would speak to you through a burning bush like Moses or that a voice from heaven would show you exactly what you should do in your life.

But if we believe in God’s Word, the Bible, He does talk to us every day! We must be still, however, in order to hear Him, either while we are in our quiet time, a walk in nature, in our dreams, in a verse from Scripture, or from another believer.

What is a loving fact is that God chose us in Him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight (Ephesians 1:4-5). He reaches out to us, as a Shepherd, and as we have fellowship with Him, we will know His voice. In John 10:3-4, “His sheep follow Him because they know his voice.”

I think the hardest part in knowing God’s will for our lives is the waiting. God wants us to be in fellowship with Him, so we need to wait with patience for the next step. But, while we are waiting, being in fellowship with Him daily is His will!

I remember being an ambitious journalism student, in a hurry to find out what great jobs I would have. It took some time and maturity to finally realize that as a child of God, being with Him is my ‘next job’. He is my life! And what joy that has given me through all these years.

When I was a new mom, that was God’s will for me. That was my job. Through each season of my life, I have seen God place new work for me, whether it’s comforting someone in crisis, caring for my family, or writing a book.

Because everything we do is for Him. He is our Lord and directs our life, “that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide” (John 15:16).

I pray that you know God is calling for you every day. He so wants to be your Lord and God, to grow you more like Jesus. If you have fallen away from a daily walk with Jesus, then draw near to Him again!

Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you (James 4:8).
