God’s Love Deposit

“God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them” (1John 4:16).

Yesterday morning was one of those mornings I wanted to recall, like an email I accidentally sent. I said something to my husband I shouldn’t have said. He replied angrily with something he probably shouldn’t have said, and that’s how the day began. Love did not appear to be in our household as we began our day.

Feeling a little blue I prayed, “Lord would you show me your love today? I really need it because my love bank is empty right now.”

Despite the circumstances of the morning, I had a full slate of activities planned, and needed to recover quickly from our marital spat. I promised a church friend, who sold a line of skin care products, that she could do a demonstration of the products at my home. A group of women from my Sunday school class was coming over within an hour. I needed to regroup.

As we sat around the table, waiting to be beautified, my friend doing the demonstration, started with an icebreaker. I expected a game, or an opportunity for each of us to share something unusual about ourselves. Instead, she asked my church friends to share what they loved about me. My eyes welled up with tears as I remembered what I prayed earlier that morning. As each of my Christian sisters shared their heart, I thanked God silently for answering my prayer. He was showing me his love through them, and made a huge deposit in my empty bank.

When I told my skin care specialist friend what I prayed earlier, she replied, “Lisa, I don’t always ask that question, but I prayed about it, and that’s the one God told me to ask.”

Of course, it was.

we love

God is love, and because of his love, he answered the prayer of one of his needy children, even though he has countless other children to care for.

Do you need to feel his love? Have you asked him to show you his love?

If we’ve accepted his son, Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, his love resides in us.

And if we’re feeling unloved at any time, all we have to do is ask him to flood us with his love, and he will do it. 1 Corinthians 13:8 reminds us that God’s love never fails.

When human love needs a new battery, his divine love keeps ticking.

By the time my husband and I returned home from our daily activities, the morning disagreement was forgotten. That’s unconditional love, but we can’t tap into the reservoir of God’s unconditional love, if our own supply of love is lacking.

If your love tank is empty today, spend some time with the creator of love, and ask him to refill your heart. He has more than enough love to go around, and as you can see, he can provide same-day service. (LBW)
